The original Midland station at Skipton, built courtesy of the Leeds and Bradford Railway Company, as part of its extension from Keighley to Skipton which opened on 7th September 1847. The fine ornate station was built by Sugden, Simpson, and Clarke at a cost of £2,330, but was re-sited 10 chains north on 30 April 1876. The old station buildings survived for office use before being completely demolished in 1967, and the site is now occupied by a supermarketSkipton original station façade (TJC3 @ 221m 11ch). 05 August 1955

A pair of working boats approaching the southern portal of Blisworth Tunnel. Grid Ref: SP 7389 5027 [GU-103-170]. The boats moored on the right are probably waiting for the tunnel tug which is waiting, wreathed in its own smoke, in the small winding hole dug for it. Shown here are the remains of a hydraulically operated Scherzer Bascule bridge, installed when the railway sidings were extended to the southern side of the canal.
