0-4-0ST No.47000 descending Middleton Incline in steam with the counterbalancing water tank coming up.

The line itself descends beneath a stone bridge carrying what was once the Middleton to Wirksworth road until it was quarried away.

0-6-0 Saddle Tank built for the Cromford & High Peak Railway in 1859 numbered No.4. It is pictured at Dolwyddelan during the construction of the Bettws-Y-Coed to Ffestiniog line in the late 1870s.

The locomotive was assembled at the Cromford Workshops in 1859 together with a similar engine numbered '5',. It became LNWR No.2040 when taken over by them in November 1871. then No.1943 in December 1871. It was placed on the Locomotive Machinery Department list in March 1877 where it survived until May 1882. On the High Peak Railway it commenced working in June 1859 and was used between Sheep Pasture and Middleton Foot between 1864 and 1871.

2-2-0 built by Edward Bury of Liverpool as a tender engine for the Cromford & High Peak Railway as C&HP No.2 pictured in the 1870s after conversion to a well tank.

Until August 1867 the locomotive mostly worked the Hopton Top to Hurdley section of the C&HPR. It was then used between Cromford Wharf and 'Cromford Jcn.' until Oct. 1869 when it went up to the Sheep Pasture - Middleton Foot section. In fact, from 1862 onward it appears to have been spare and only used when LNWR No.1375, an Ex-Liverpool and Manchester 2-4-0, was undergoing repairs in the workshop at Cromford. In Nov 1871 the loco was renumbered by the LNWR to No.2039 and in Dec 1871 No.1942. It was then converted to a box tank and taken out of stock in May 1873 being transferred to the Locomotive Machinery Dept. and, as No.8, used for shunting in Crewe Works. It was finally broken up in May 1876.

58092 2234 Class 2-4-0T on the Cromford & High Peak Railway with a typical mixed train of water tanks and open wagons.

Built by Webb in 1877 the loco remained in service until 1952.
