Tilling's Times 'Knifeboard' Horse Bus - restored (Ref: 031571)

Dating from 1875 and operating between Peckham and Oxford Street. This bus was originally restored by London General for the omnibus centenary celebration in 1929 and is now in the London Transport Museum's collection.

Toll House of the Warburton – Rixton Toll Bridge. 04 October 1964

Built under the Rixton & Warburton Bridge Act 1863, it carries the B5159 road over the canalised Mersey but when the MSC was built, another bridge had to be built and maintained at the MSC's cost over the new cut, about 500m to the north of the original one. The tolls continued to be taken at the site of the original bridge but are now collected at a booth in the middle of the road just before the toll collectors house as seen in the picture. The toll was originally capped at 12.5p, was reduced to 12p on decimalisation but, effectively in 2025 ,raised to £1. Grid Ref: SJ 6979 8972 [MSC-041-420]
