Originally built by Kirtley for the LCDR at Longhedge in 1880 (as No. 177) it is pictured here in SE&CR livery.with a group of workers in the early 1900s. The loco was withdrawn in 1912.

This station was built in 1926 to replace the LCDR's Margate West station and incorporate the SER's Margate Sands. It is pictured here when the building work was completed, the wooden pattern used to construct the arched windows stands on the ground at the front of the building. The building is Grade II listed.

The junction between the Bridgwater Canal and the Trent & Mersey is immediately to the North of the entrance to the tunnel. The tunnel is 1,239 yards long, and entry works on a timetable.
