A motor boat towing two boats was a rarity on this canal — perhaps the engine on 'Roach' had failed. 'Kangaroo' was an iron-composite boat built by Yarwoods of Northwich for Fellow Morton & Clayton in 1928. 'Roach' was an ex-FMC iron-composite motor built by Yarwoods in 1934. 'Dace' was an ex-FMC steel-hulled motor built by Yarwoods in 1934 but converted into a butty by British Waterways in 1951 or 1952.
