John Hemelryk's narrow boat "Peacock" at Paddington Basin
John Hemelryk was the long-time owner of "PEACOCK". He was a lorry driver who had an interest in all things mechanical, and kept both "PEACOCK" and his lorry in excellent condition. He was part of the canal scene from the mid-1950s onwards. "PEACOCK" had its home mooring close to Bishops Bridge Road bridge at the entrance to Paddington Basin before the developments shown in other pictures in this collection were first started. The whole area is completely unrecognisable now though the tall white building to the right of the bridge on the left of the picture was still there in 2018.
