A member of one of only two 2-8-2T class locomotives built and used by a British railway, and the largest tank engines to run on the GWR.

Banbury part way through its rebuilding circa 1951. The A3 will have come off the GCR from Woodford Halse and is probably waiting to return there with a local passenger train. The coach is a GWR auto-trailer and looks to have a 14xx 0-4-2T or maybe a pannier tank on the front - there was an auto train service linking Banbury to Princes Risborough via Bicester. There's a gas tank wagon in the background too

The GWR experimented with oil burning steam locomotives after WW2, and 37 engines of four different classes were converted between 1946 and 1950. Garth Hall was converted in Jun 1946 and reverted in Oct 1948

No. 77015 entering the station with an Up direction, Darlington to Scarborough train. Not long after this photo was taken 77014 was transferred from Darlington shed to Whitby.

No. 67677 arrives at Hayburn Wyke station with a Down Scarborough to Whitby and Middlesbrough train on 30 August 1955. The V3 has a good head of steam ready for the steep climb up through Stainton Dale to the summit at Ravenscar.
