The bridge has since been rebuilt in concrete and could either be Church Road Bridge, Grid Ref: TL 7628 0858 [CBN-008-640], near Little Baddow Lock or Paper Mill Bridge, Grid Ref: TL 7769 0902 [CBN-010-260], near the village.

This plaque is rather cruder than that on the north portal. It features the name of the company, a wagon, the date 1825 and the initials P H & Co. This may refer to Porteous & Co. who were the contractors for this section of the line. SK 1513 6295

The rails used were of the “L” section 3½” wide by 3½” deep and the base was about one inch thick. The flange was tapered from one inch at the bottom to a half inch at the top. The method of holding down the chairs and rails was by drilling a hole in the stone block into which was inserted a wooden peg. A spike was driven through a hole in the rail and the chair or saddle and into the wooden peg
