The Board was run jointly by Middlesbrough Corporation and Eston Urban District Council. The trolleybus service served steelworks along the south bank of the River Tees, particularly the large Dorman Long steelworks. It was the only trolleybus system operating after the Second World War which had not previously been a tramway. In 1968 the Board became part of Tees-side Municipal Transport. The last trolleybus ran on the 4th of April 1971, with the network being replaced by petrol buses.
