In July 1902, whilst the new tunnel under Sundridge Park was being excavated to take the two extra lines, the old tunnel which was separate but side by side with the new one, partially collapsed. Despite being separate bores the collapse of the old tunnel damaged the new one and all services on the line had to be suspended.
