Guildford Chalk Tunnel, north portal (WPH1 @ 30m 43ch)
The tunnel is 845y long (30m 43ch - 31m 01ch), but it was originally 968y long before the northern end was opened out. The photo is taken prior to this, when there was no headwall at the portal. LSWR Adams G6 0-6-0T Loco No 266, two old carriages, and a steam crane are also in the photo. The date of the photo is somewhere between 1923, from the "Southern" wording on the locomotive; and 1934 as the crane was withdrawn on 28 July 1934 following the collapse of its jib
