Merstham (Old) Station (RED2 c. 21m) (Ref: 030273)
Originally built by London & Brighton Rly 1841 and handed over to SER under agreement in 1842. Closed, but shortly reopened in 1844 owing to a fuss made by Countess of Warwick of Gatton Park, the new station (about 1/2 mile north) not yet being ready; this was opened the following year. This building was severely damaged by a bomb in 1940 and pulled down.
