The Great Flood of 1948. Over the weekend of 12/13th August 1948 extreme heavy rain fell on Berwickshire causing widespread flooding. The East Coast main line was severely damaged in a number of locations and had to be closed to traffic for 11 weeks whilst reconstruction and repairs were carried out.
