GWR and London & Birmingham Railway First and Second Class Carriages - Line drawings

The two drawings are taken from "Railway Practice" by S. C. Brees, 1847 (4th series).
The upper drawing is of a GWR broad gauge three-compartment, four-wheeled 1st class carriage that carried eighteen passengers. The luggage was stored on the roof where the Guard who applied the brake also rode, being provided with a seat at each end.
The lower drawing is of a London & Birmingham Railway 2nd class carriage, with six wheels and six compartments each seating twelve passengers. The brake handle was on the inside of the carriage so the guard had to squeeze in with the passengers. This carriage had a roof but was open sided half way from the floor to the roof.

LNWR Coach No. 273 - Body

Used on Euston to Birmingham services 1850 -1870. Sold in 1880 to East and West Junction Railway who used it until 1908. Was later used as the E&WJR's Inspection saloon and later, without wheels, a waiting room on Stratford station.

Probably built by The Ashbury Railway Carriage and Iron Company, Manchester. There is a drawing of a very similar coach; an early enclosed third class coach built in 1854 for the LNWR. This was 21' long and 5' 9" wide.

The glass-lined milk tanker was built in 1934 by the GWR to diagram 039, lot 1517. It was formerly owned by Unigate Creameries, but the chassis remained the property of the GWR.
The coach was built Wolverton in 1897. Formerly no DM198512

Entered service on the LMSR London suburban (“Euston D.C.”) lines from new on 05 January 1926 & 12 November 1925. Withdrawn 26 February 1953 and 19 February 1953 respectively. In the photo they were in use as a canteen, etc.

Former LNWR Euston-Watford Electric Car

Converted for 50Hz electrification tests on the Lancaster - Morecambe - Heysham line in the 1950s. The original seating was replaced by bus-type seats - 3rd or 2nd class depending on the exact date!
