The 4ft 6 in gauge Lee Moor Tramway was built specifically to transport china clay from the Lee Moor, on the south western edge of Dartmoor, to Plymouth via a junction with the Plymouth and Dartmoor Railway. A combination of steam locos, horses and ropes was used to haul wagons along the route. It was finally closed in 1960.
