The bodies were of rolled plate iron and held about 45cwt of stone. They were secured to the wagon by means of two wooden pegs at the sides of the body, one of which may be seen in the photo. They were semi-open at one end, the material being kept in by means of a movable gate the purpose of which was to enable the contents of the wagon to be tipped into the waiting barges by means of the wagon tippler
