The Brampton Railway was a network of standard gauge lines built to serve Lord Carlisle's Cumbrian coal mines. The first tracks were laid in 1775 and all were closed by 1953. The lines were operated by rope, horses and steam locomotives (including, for a short while, The Rocket).
