HMS Queen of Thanet in Camouflage Paint at Folkestone Harbour
The ship was built by William Hamilton & Co., Port Glasgow as the Ascot Class minesweeper HMS Melton in 1916. She was purchased by the New Medway Steam Packet Company in 1927 for conversion to a passenger ship on a cross Channel route to Calais, but was was laid up in 1938. She served at Dunkirk, and rescued 4,000 men during WWII. She resumed civilian sailings in 1946, and was scrapped in 1951.
