When our father, Ian Moss, passed away in 2022 aged 89, he left an archive of over 50,000 slides dating between the mid 1950s (when cameras were relatively uncommon) and the late 2010s (when he could no longer hold a camera steady). His primary interest was in Railway and Canal history with a sprinkling of family photo's
Unfortunately, he relied very much on his memory and encyclopedic knowledge when giving lectures and left few written notes - we have therefore been left the task of scanning and identifying many thousands of images before passing the relevant images to a suitable archive such as ROMA or the RCHS Online Media Archive (Ian was the President of the RCHS for many years).
It's possible that Ian's collection includes slides which were not taken by him, but bought, donated, lent or given. If we have infringed anyone else's copyright, please let us know. It was not intentional, but we will remove the image (and comments) from the site.

Deep Duffryn Colliery, Mountain Ash. Peckett 0-6-0ST "Sir Gomer" shunting.
The colliery was sunk in 1850, and closed in 1981. “Sir Gomer”, a class OX1 locomotive, was built by Peckett & Sons in 1932 and delivered new to the Mountain Ash Colliery. It is now preserved at Shackerstone on the Battlefield line heritage railway. Stanier 8F 2-8-0 No 48518, formerly LMS 8518, in scrapped condition in Barry Scrapyard
No 8518 was built in 1944, and was the only surviving LNER-built example. Formerly part of the 'Barry Ten' (the collection of ten unsold scrapyard steam locomotives that were removed from Woodham Brothers in 1990 when Dai Woodham retired), 48518 was used as a parts donor for 1014 County of Glamorgan and 45551 The Unknown Warrior. Merchant Navy Class Pacific loco No 35009 "Shaw Savill" in very poor condition
After being withdrawn in 1964, 35009 "Shaw Savill" was stored at Woodham Brothers scrapyard in Barry, Wales, before moving to the failed Brighton Railway Museum project at Brighton Works in 1989, then Swindon Works in the early 2000s, and eventually Bury where it currently resides with Ian Riley for restoration. AEC Regent V / Northern Counties Double-decker bus, Reg.No. KNY 495D. Built 1964
New to Rhondda Transport as No. 495, the bus passed to National Welsh and on withdrawal was immediately purchased by its current owner. The photo is in front of the Pierhead Building, a Grade I listed building in Cardiff Bay. It was built in 1897 as the headquarters for the Bute Dock Company. Driving wheels of 4ft 6ins, built in 1932 for the Chinese Government Purchasing Commission Teintsin Pukow. It was one of an order for 8 locomotives, numbered 291-298. When these eight outsize engines left the factory in 1932 bound for Manchester docks in a fully erected state, the move entailed lowering and slewing the railway line through two tunnels, and removing the coping stones from Eccles station platform.
