The canal is split into two sections. The Droitwich Barge Canal, completed in 1771 ran for 5¾ miles connecting Droitwich to the River Severn via 8 locks. In 1854, the Droitwich Junction canal, 1½ miles long with 6 narrow locks connected Droitwich and the barge canal to the Worcester and Birmingham Canal.
