This is presumably the section between the sluice for the leat to Morwellham Hydro-Electric Power Station (built in 1934) and the head of Morwellham Inclined Plane. "While we were standing by the canal, the water level in the tunnel rose by a few inches, and the dry bed became a long puddle".
