By the time this picture was taken, the water wheel was long gone, having operated between 1819 and 1924. This was supplemented in 1860 by a steam engine. A diesel engine was installed in 1924, later replaced by portable diesel pumps which worked until the late 1940s, supplying water to a creamery via the canal.
