Old Lock Chamber near Abingdon
Grid Ref: SU 5138 9664 [TR-063-620]. This is thought to be the remains of a pound lock constructed on the Swift Ditch in 1635 by the Oxford-Burcot-Commission. The Swift Ditch cuts across the bend in the river on which Abingdon lies. The current lock, closer to the town was built in 1790, possibly in anticipation of the arrival of the Wilts & Berks Canal.
