Coal Marker Stone.
Grid Ref: TQ 0278 7170 [TR-174-850]. One of the markers of various designs that indicted that duties were to be paid to the City of London Corporation on any coal passing that point in the direction of London. This one, of about 280, marks the revised boundary following an Act of 1861. It is opposite the London Stone, which marks the end of the City of London's control of the river.
