In this section, the 1834 shortening cut two and a third miles off the length of the canal leaving redundant loops between Braunston and Willoughby. The section between Braunston Turn and the Stop House, at this end of the Grand Junction Canal, has remained in use and a short arm from the Stop House to the A45 was retained, originally to wharves but now as the entrance to Braunston Marina and a boatyard and chandlery. The section from the Stop House is often referred to as part of the main line of what is now the Grand Union though the Oxford never relinquished this section to it. CRT identify the length from the Stop House to Braunston Turn as part of the GU in its location codes to avoid confusion and some maps show it as part of the GU. Maps are included at the start of this folder to explain where pictures in this area are located and specifically, the coding applied to the redundant loop.
