In this section, the 1834 shortening cut four and a half miles off the length of the canal leaving redundant loops at Rugby and Brownsover and two small ones in Hillmorton. Parts of some of the longer ones were retained as they led to still active wharfs albeit that at Brownsover this has been reduced to a 90m length for boat moorings.
