Built between 1798 and 1811. Engineer: Benjamin Outram. Engine house containing 2 pits. Roof removed. Situated at roughly centre point of Standedge canal tunnel. The building encloses the engine pit and bye pit, which were used to drain and work the central part of the tunnel. Grid Ref: SE 0253 1021 [HN-015-860]
