The western section of the Main Line, opened in 1776 from the junction with the arm to Preston Brook Tunnel and thence the Trent and Mersey Canal to the docks and connection, originally to the River Mersey but later to the Manchester Ship Canal.

Grid Ref: SJ 5270 8293 [BWm-044-760]. Wooden boats were restored here. 'Raymond' was the last working wooden narrowboat to be built (1958). She sank here before restoration could be finished, was re-floated and moved to the Black Country Museum in Dudley but sank again and was too badly decayed for any thing of the hull, other than the iron knees, to be salvaged.
