This is the Turf Lock before it was a turf lock! It used to be two individual staunches, as in this photo. Definitely taken before 1895, when all the infrastructure on the Lark was upgraded to try (unsuccessfully) to compete with the railways. The two sunken barges are indicative of the very poor state of the Lark Navigation in the late 1800s.
